Cycle superhighway

Where Bishopsgate turns into Shoreditch High Street the quality of the road goes severely downhill - potholes everywhere, where great puddles collect after rain. The concentration of buses here means bikes often end up going through all the ... [more]

CS2 - make it a real Cycle Superhighway please !!! And sort out Bow Properly - a proper cycle lane on the flyover please

Key route through Hackney

This road is routinely used as a rat-run by speeding traffic, and is often very unpleasant to cycle along. The numerous traffic calming islands in place down this narrow, residential street cause pinch points and danger to cyclists.

Whitechapel, mile end and Bow roads - wide, busy, fast, lots of pavement space. There's a university there, lots of young people in the area and its a superhighway. Could be feasibility for segregated cycling and a good audience for dutch s ... [more]

Bow roundabout - 2x green lights for cyclists are misleading because the red stop light after looks as though it's just for cars - it's not!! very danagerous

Tower Bridge is possibly the worst London bridge for cyclists -- lanes so narrow & traffic so un-calmed that you take your life in your hands -- and then the north side of the bridge is just terrifying, with unprotected multilane traffic an ... [more]

Tower Hill - coming at it from Byward street headed East. You have very little room just after the rise when the cycle path seems to just end. You then have to merge accross lanes of very busy traffic . Getting over to the cycle path on ca ... [more]

Not enough room for two lane traffic on southern approach to bridge but there is room for cycle lanes. Cycle lanes needed on the bridge itself and re-surfacing to remove the steep ridges at the sides.

I entirely agree with the other marker here - to get from Bethnal Green Road to Whitechapel High Street, the only sane way to cycle is down Brick Lane... but its one way the other way. Everyone does it... main danger is all the broken glass ... [more]

The junction of Whitechapel Road and Leman Street is very hazardous. Travelling westbound, I have had vehicles in the middle nearly hit me as they turn left into Leman Street, in clear contradiction to the road markings.

Very busy/dangerous junction with all manner of vehicles jostling for space, with the poor cyclist being squeezed...if you need to turn right here, you are taking your life in your hands!

I got knocked off my bike here on Boris's super highway a car undertook the traffic while I was in a bike lane. The driver has been prosecuted and fined and poiints removed from his license so full credit to the Londong Met. CCS2 is a joke ... [more]

An elevated covered cycle path by the side of bow flyover is the only solution to that nightmare junction. Expensive and unlikely to happen. I spend a lot of time sketching and dreaming how it would look.......Also and perhaps more importan ... [more]

The filter lights here show someone has put some thought into safety. However, it seems to me a bit daft and long winded. On this one way road, the bike lane is to the right of the car lane. Presumably the bike filter lights are there sep ... [more]

The marked cycle route is far too narrow and windey to have two way traffic. Cyclists end up on the pedestrianised side of the path for safety, as there is not enough room for bikes coming from both directions. This means that you never k ... [more]

Horseferry road and where it passes through the park on to Butcher Row. The bikes have to go on the wrong side of the land and continue up the pedestrianised hill, whereby they then switch to the left again which means the bikes going in e ... [more]

Mile End/Whitechapel Road junction with Cambridge Heath Road and Sydney Street This used to be a safe if clunky junction before it was improved. There were filter lights from the Mile End/Whitechapel Road into Cambridge Heath Road and S ... [more]

The whole of Commercial Street is extremely difficult to navigate on a bicycle. There are no cycle lanes indicated at all, and traffic is fast and intimidating. Crossing for pedestrians is rather onerous too. Commercial Street needs traffic ... [more]

It needs to be safer with more lanes, lets go dutch!

Turning right onto commercial street from whitechapel road is practically impossible.

Advanced stop line going south that you can actually get into. Entry blocked by left turning vehicles, maybe needs an entry from the right?

a counterflow cycling lane in Ontario Way badly needed so that cyclists can avoid the underground roundabout at Westferry Circus

this crossing bridge is an accident waiting to happen; the railings are only 1.5 ft high, the path is very narrow, very uneven, very steep and there are cyclists and pedestrians joining at the top of it

Cycled across Bow roundabout, West to East last week - where the new lights have been installed to allow cyclists time to move off ahead of motor vehicles. My light was green and I continued on, stopping just in time to let the articulated ... [more]

There are 4 lanes of fast and busy through traffic. They act as a barrier to local people and community life. There are wide pavements, trees, 2 tube stations, borris bikess, local cafes and shops, and the road connects the canal at mile en ... [more]

CS2. All the way from Aldgate, over the bow flyover, and on to Stratford. There are up to six lanes for the cars, and massive wide pavements, but just a strip of blue paint to keep cycles safe. I've frequently seen cycles sideswiped by ca ... [more]

make this 2 way for cyclists

create advanced cycle lane and cycle lane on the left. there is no room for cyclist at the moment and cars drive very close to the curb

Clean up the tunnel, ventilate better to increase the air quality. Smooth the surface on the pavements and and indicate that they are shared cycle lanes. I hate going through the tunnel but at least I can then cycle on the canal path all th ... [more]

This insane gyratory means that I am terrified to cycle the roughly 1.5 miles from SE1 to Brick Lane/Liverpool area. Undo the gyratory and install real infrastructure -- plenty of room.

There are always terrible problems with congestion that have got worse since they put in the traffic lights. Cyclists that even try to cycle around there get beeped. It's hazardous to even try crossing over because of all the cars going at ... [more]

Towet bridge - peak times are dangerous with cyclists, buses, lorries, cars all trying to edge their way across. The footpaths are wide on Tower Bridge, why not take some of this and turn into safe cycle-only paths like Brookly Bridge.

The stretch of road between Leman Street and Fenchurch street is full of potential left hooks as westbound motorists try to overtake stopped buses and then pull left onto Minories. The short bus lane between Minories and Jewry street only e ... [more]

there's a cycle lane but no way to cross the road when travelling down from bethnal green

Trying to turn from Whitechapel road into Commercial road is a mess. The short distance from the lights at Leman St & Whitechapel Road to the right turn for Commercial road is always a little dicey, particularly as one starts in the left la ... [more]

Burdett Road has all the usual silly "safety" features e.g. painted images of bikes on the road and then at the junction where you cross the A13, it doesn't even have an ASL!

this is a very unsafe junction. It has become very dangerous after changing in traffic lights. Changes need to be made in all directions (Mile end road and sidney street.

segregated lanes through this dangerous junction where cyclists are dumped at the end of CS7

the cycle highway ends right before this big junction. it would be great to have a bike friendly solution to continue into the city and maybe connect with the cs7

Daily struggle for bikes to cross between angry taxi's busses and tourist pedestrians in a hurry etc. Dangerous!

Tower Bridge - A terribly dangerous road for cyclists, very thin and narrow with ridged sides. It lacks a cycle path despite being in major use by cyclists throughout the day. The pavements are often at a complete standstill as tourists sto ... [more]

The Bow roundabout has no pedestrian crossings. You have to dodge the traffic to get across

Really dangerous to get into the correct lane (in the middle of the road) and avoid fast moving motorised vehicles

Cars from side roads cut across Hackney road, often through stationary traffic including busses and construction traffic. Cyclists in the bus lane often cannot see the cars as they cut across their lane and visa versa.

The piffly bit of cycling lane where Commercial Road joins Whitechapel Road is woefully inadequate. There's NO ROOM for cyclists approaching this junction at all. If there is a bus or lorry, the vehicle frequently overhangs the PAVEMENT, ne ... [more]

All the way down Bethnal Green Rd and Roman Rd should be made either shared usage like Exhibition Rd or segregated cycle lanes. The pavements are very wide here and there is plenty of space. It's already a lot more busy than the cycle 'sup ... [more]

Bicycle symbols are stencilled on the road here, but what does this mean?! It seems to have no effect on driver behaviour, and there is no actual physical provision for cyclists.

A second deidcated cycling route from Tower to Canary Wharf along the river side - cobble free routes, and permanenetly open King George Park Also, pedestrianise Shad Thames except to residents. It's a no through route anyway.

Roman Road & Bethnal Green Road to Shoreditch. Encourage people in one of the poorest boroughs toc to cycle and save money and keep fit on safe cycle lanes

The CS3 cycle high way ends in very busy roads around tower hill. separate cycle paths should be created to bypass this frankly dangerous area in both directions

Allowing cyclist to use Brick Lane in both directions - Many do so already although it's not allowed to avoid dangerous Commercial Street or Vallance Road. Brick lane has a more pedestrian and cyslit friendly feel and making it available fo ... [more]

Improve the junction at Vallance rd, New rd, Whitechapel rd. Turning right is dangerous as the junction layout is very uneven. Perhaps seperate traffic light signals for right turning traffic and smoother road layout

The recent changes to the traffic light signals at the whitechapel rd, cambridge heath rd junction have jeopardised cyclists' safety in favour of speeding up traffic. There is now no seperate traffic light for right-turning cyclists and veh ... [more]

Need a cycle lane along the busy Whitchapel Road going into the city - the cycle highway ends here. It's dangerous cycling from Whitechapel into town at the moment.

Bow - roundabout and flyover still too dangerous and too many accidents and fatalities still happening. Some good initatives carried out lately by Police and local authorities to encourage cyclists to see things from the point of view of HG ... [more]

Some proper cycle ways on Vallance Rd and New Road would be good. And some safe way of turing right on the superhighway - nice blue paint but some help getting on to it would be good. Maybe some traffic lights for cyclists??
